Masterclasses

Experience our degree courses firsthand

These interactive sessions offer you and your students a taste of university-level study, delivered by our expert academic staff. Designed specifically for Year 12 and 13 students (sixth form and college), these masterclasses provide an engaging introduction to a range of subject areas.

Ready to book a masterclass? 

Many of our masterclass can be booked and confirmed straightaway by using the booking here links below. Please do ensure that the students you select to attend subject specific masterclasses are studying similar subjects currently, or have a passion for the subject and are considering this area in terms of future study. 

Where specific days/dates have not been released for certain masterclass subjects, please register your interest by completing our interest form. Once you submit this form, a member of our team will get in touch to see what we can offer. If you'd like to get in touch about about masterclasses, please email schoolsliaison@ucb.ac.uk 

Please also note that where capacity is not met for masterclasses, we may look to invite another group to attend with your group. Where this is the case, we will be in touch.

 

Aesthetics

This masterclass invites you to look deeper than the surface, using cutting-edge VISIA technology to explore and understand the hidden damage that can lie beneath the skin.

You will take on the role of a researcher, investigating underlying concerns, analysing results, and uncovering insights with the guidance of our expert lecturers. It’s a unique opportunity to, discover how advanced diagnostics reveal the true story of skin health.

Aesthetics masterclasses will take place on Wednesday's from 9:30-12pm. We can host a max of either 20 students in the studio with teachers waiting nearby, or up to 20 students and teachers.

Business and Finance 

Step into the world of modern business with our engaging Business and Finance Masterclass. This session gives students the opportunity to:

  • Gain real-world insight into current economic trends, including the impact of AI in the workplace
  • Take a tour of our Financial Trading Suite
  • Create and pitch their own business plan to a panel of industry experts, receiving valuable feedback and guidance

Sessions take place Wednesday's from 9:30am to 1:00pm. We can host up to 60 students at each masterclass, however should you wish to bring more students please do get in touch: Schoolsliaison@ucb.ac.uk

College of Food

The College of Food invites you to attend one of their Masterclass, designed for aspiring chefs, bakers, and food innovators ready to take their passion to a professional level.

Led by industry-leading chefs, artisan bakers, food scientists, and culinary experts, this hands-on session offers a unique insight into the art, science, and innovation behind exceptional food.

Spend the morning discovering more about our BA/FdA Culinary Arts Management and BA/ FdA Professional Chef programmes as you roll up your sleeves and create a culinary delight under the guidance of our expert lecturers.

Then, step into our state-of-the-art bakeries or specialist food science labs for a practical session led by one of our bakery lecturers. Here, you'll learn more about our BSc/ FdSc Bakery and Patisserie Technology programme. Learn how creativity and science combine to produce outstanding bakery products.

Masterclasses run on Wednesdays from 9:30am – 12:15pm, with the option to stay afterwards for a guided campus tour.

Our college of food masterclasses will usually host a max of 16 students, however we can host up to 30 dependant on date. Should you wish to bring more than 16 students, please do get in touch: Schoolsliaison@ucb.ac.uk

Digital

Join us for our Computing Masterclass sessions, held every Friday from 9:30am to 1:00pm, and discover what it’s really like to study a university-level Computing degree.

Led by our expert lecturers, these engaging and interactive sessions offer a rare opportunity to explore the exciting worlds of Computer Science and Cyber Security.

Students will take part in hands-on learning within our state-of-the-art facilities, experiencing practical demonstrations in programming and Cyber Security related scenarios.

This is the perfect opportunity to gain insight, build confidence, and get a feel for life as a university Computing student.

Our digital masterclasses can host a max of 30 students.

Graphic Design

Think. Make. Design. Curious about studying graphic design at university? This interactive session introduces the core principles of design, challenges you to think differently about creativity, and reveals how graphic design influences everything from brands and apps, through to the spaces we move through every day.

Masterclasses are available on Wednesdays 9:30-12pm and can host a max of 30 students.

Hair and Make-Up Business Management

Combine creativity with entrepreneurship in our specialist Masterclass designed for aspiring professionals in the hair and make-up industry. These interactive sessions will run on Wednesday's between 9:30am - 12:00pm.

We can host a max of either 20 students in the studio with teachers waiting nearby, or up to 20 students and teachers.

Health and Nutrition

Explore the diverse world of healthcare and nutrition through our immersive Masterclass, designed to provide students with a realistic overview of careers in:

  • Adult Nursing
  • Physiotherapy
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Paramedic Science
  • Nutrition

Students will experience hands-on learning in our state-of-the-art Health Simulation Suites, where they'll work through real-life scenarios to better understand the challenges and rewards of healthcare professions.

Health and Nutrition masterclasses will run from January 2027. Dates have not yet been confirmed for these masterclasses. However if you are interested, please complete this form.

This masterclass can host up to 16 students where using our sensory suites, or 30 if classroom based. 

Hospitality and Tourism

Are your students looking into stepping into the exciting and fast-paced industries of hospitality, tourism, events, and aviation? This Masterclass is designed to give students a taste of what these global sectors have to offer.

Prosthetics for Stage and Screen

Perfect for students with a passion for special effects, this session explores the creative and technical skills used to transform characters through prosthetic artistry. Students will also gain experience using industry-standard tools and products in our Prosthetics labs.

Prosthetics Masterclasses are available on Wednesday mornings 9:30-12:00.

Due to studio capacity, we can host up to 18 students with teachers not in the room, or a mixture of 18 students and teachers.

Psychology

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ the fascinating world of psychology and the many career paths it can lead to with our interactive Masterclass. These sessions will also give students the opportunity to learn more about our specialist pathways in: 

  • Health Psychology
  • Educational Psychology
  • Sport and Exercise Psychology

Hosted in our brand-new Centre of Psychology. Session days have not yet been confirmed but session will run 9.30am - 12.30pm. Session have a max 40 capacity. 

Sport

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ where a degree in sport can take you with our Sport Masterclass which explores specialist areas including:

  • Sports Therapy 
  • Strength and Conditioning 
  • Sport and Physical Education 

You’ll also get an exclusive look inside our cutting-edge Human Performance Centre and therapy clinics.

Engineering

Join us for our Engineering Masterclass sessions. These will take place on the last Friday of each month (9:30–12:00) and give students the opportunity to discover what it takes to engineer the future.

Led by our expert teaching staff, these interactive sessions are designed to give students a genuine feel for life as a university student across our core BEng pathways:

•    Electromechanical Engineering
•    Mechanical Engineering
•    Automated Manufacturing

What to expect: Students will step into our state-of-the-art facilities for hands-on, practical learning, including:

•    Live demonstrations in robotics, automated systems and Industry 4.0
•    Practical applications of modern manufacturing principles
•    Exposure to industry-standard design and simulation software

Whether students are looking to build confidence or gain insight into future career options, this masterclass is a great starting point for their engineering journey.

We can host up to 40 students split into 2 groups for these sessions.

Social Care

If you're interested in making a difference to other people's lives, our Social Care Masterclass will help you explore the skills needed to work in this rewarding sector and the wide range of career options. You will learn more about our pathways in:

Social Care masterclasses will take place on Tuesday afternoons 12.30-2:30pm from September - May. These masterclasses have a max capacity of 20. However, should you wish to bring more students please do get in touch: Schoolsliaison@ucb.ac.uk

You and your students are welcome to eat lunch on campus prior to the masterclass. You are welcome to bring food with you, or buy lunch from one of our outlets.

Please note, our events are limited in capacity and high in demand. Cancellations impact staff, resource and prevent other students from having the opportunity to engage in our activities. Please be aware all cancellations should be made in advance and at least two weeks prior to the event date. We understand extenuating circumstances can result in the need for cancellation close to the date, however, repeat cancellations may result in restriction of future bookings.
