I鈥檓 an experienced hairdresser teaching at FE level. My industry experience, combined with over two decades of teaching, allows me to bring current, real-world practices into the classroom. I focus on making sure students leave with both the technical skills and the confidence they need for employment.

My career began on the salon floor, where I worked as a stylist and progressed to senior/top stylist and eventually salon manager. During this time, I built a strong foundation in cutting, colouring, styling, client consultation, customer care, team leadership and salon operations. After five years in a salon environment, I moved into freelance work as a mobile hairdresser. Running my own business for 14 years helped me develop strong organisational skills, flexibility and the ability to work with a wide range of clients in different settings. 

Along the way, I discovered I had a real passion for supporting others entering the profession, which led me into teaching in 2000. Since then, I have built a long and rewarding career in further education. Of all my successes, I鈥檓 most proud of the impact I鈥檝e had on my students. I find it incredibly rewarding to see them grow in confidence, and go on to secure successful careers in the industry. I also enjoy when former students return to the college as lecturers and I have the opportunity to work alongside them.

My students often tell me they enjoy my classes because I鈥檓 patient, encouraging and genuinely committed to helping them achieve their full potential. My advice to anyone starting at UCB is simple: your career journey starts the moment you arrive here.

Outside of work, I鈥檓 actively involved in my church as a Church Leader.
