Finding a calling in events
When Ayisha finished her dance and performing arts course at college, she had no idea what to do next.
Two years of casual work later, she organised a few events and parties for family and friends and was absolutely hooked.
鈥淚t made me realise how much I loved the planning, the people, the energy,鈥� she said.
鈥淚 wanted to challenge myself and was immediately drawn to this events management course, which looked so vibrant in content.鈥�
One of Ayisha鈥檚 first assignments was producing a presentation and poster on her own concept, a celebration of Caribbean culture. 鈥淚 could put my own ideas and flavours into it, which I loved,鈥� she said.
Ayisha, who plans to become a venue stylist or events planner, has also benefitted from a range of industry guest talks and visits to major venues, including one to the Utilita Arena conducted by its
operations manager.
Crucially, she accesses the University鈥檚 Centre for Academic Skills and English (CASE) to improve her grades, as well as the counselling service. 鈥淭hey鈥檝e been really helpful,鈥� she said.
鈥淲hat I鈥檇 say to other students is, attend every lecture, try your hardest and put in the effort for every assignment.鈥�
