Sibia Edwards
Health and Social Care BSc (Hons)
Gaining the skills to help others thrive
While studying for her Level 3 qualification, Sibia developed a passion for mentoring and decided to explore the subject further at degree level.
Although health and social care didn鈥檛 relate directly to her previous studies, she knew it would give her the chance to build on what she鈥檇 learned so far and broaden her skillset.
鈥淣ot coming from a healthcare background, I was a bit worried that I鈥檇 have difficulty with the terminology, but the lecturers were extremely supportive and never made me feel like I was out of my depth,鈥 she said.
鈥HIRED then helped me find a placement with a strong mentoring aspect. I loved it, and was even asked to stay on as a paid member of staff!鈥
Since graduating, Sibia has worked as head of behaviour at the same workplace, and is responsible for managing a team of mentors.
鈥淚n the future, I鈥檇 love to return to 蜜桃传媒 and complete my master鈥檚 in education,鈥 she said.
鈥淓ventually, I鈥檒l open up my own hub for young people affected by gangs and youth violence. The variety in my studies and work have given me the perfect grounding to take on this challenge.鈥
