Induction information for new students (Level 4)

Further information specific to your course, including induction activities, any uniform/kit requirements and our Kick-Start scheme, is available below. Additional changes may be made to the schedules before welcome week. You are required to attend your course induction session and other activities unless you have enrolled after these have passed.

Monday 21 September

Meet your teaching team and cohort
Location: McIntyre House (MH), MH124
Time: 9.30am-12.30pm

Join the BSc Mental Health and Wellbeing programme team for your course welcome session. You will meet key members of staff, begin getting to know your classmates, and be introduced to the structure of induction week. The session will include an overview of the course, expectations for Level 4 study, the academic year, key support routes, and how we will help you settle into university life. Students will also take part in low-pressure introductory activities designed to build confidence, belonging and connection within the cohort.


Who Are We? Building Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Community

This interactive afternoon session focuses on helping students feel part of the BSc Mental Health and Wellbeing community. Students will take part in a campus tour orientation activity, explore the values of the course, and participate in group discussions and activities that encourage teamwork, inclusion, professional curiosity and reflection. The session is designed to help students build confidence, make connections with peers and begin thinking about the values and skills that underpin mental health and wellbeing practice.

Tuesday 22 September

Getting Started: Your First Year Journey in Mental Health and Wellbeing
Location: McIntyre House (MH), MH124
Time: 9.30am-12.30pm

This session will help you prepare for your first year at university and understand how your Level 4 modules fit together. You will be introduced to the Mental Health and Wellbeing curriculum, assessment methods, Canvas, student support services and academic expectations. There will also be opportunities to ask questions and meet colleagues from HIRED, who will explain DBS requirements, placement opportunities and professional readiness for future employment.


Ruby Court Experience: Understanding the Person Behind the Story
Location: Moss House (MS), Simulation Suite
Time: 1pm-3.30pm
Lecturer(s): Samantha HIll, Jill Nathan

Join us in Ruby Court for an interactive learning experience designed specifically for Mental Health and Wellbeing students. Working in small groups, you will explore realistic scenarios, develop observation and communication skills, and begin thinking about the factors that influence mental health and wellbeing. This supportive activity will help you build confidence, professional curiosity and teamwork skills while introducing key themes that you will explore throughout your degree.

Canvas Getting Started Activities
Location: Join the online meeting

Time: Flexible guided study

Students will complete a series of online activities designed to help them become familiar with Canvas, locate programme information, access support services and engage with their fellow students. Activities include discussion board introductions, programme orientation tasks and navigation exercises.

Becoming a Mental Health and Wellbeing Student

Time: Flexible guided study

Students will complete a series of reflective and preparatory activities through Canvas designed to develop confidence, academic readiness and professional identity. Activities will introduce students to key university support services and encourage reflection on their goals and expectations for university study.

Welcome week activities and support sessions

Throughout welcome week, we've arranged a programme of support sessions and activities to help you settle into university life, meet other students and discover the services available to you.

You'll have the opportunity to meet teams including Disability and Neurodiversity Support, Mental Health and Wellbeing, the Centre for Academic Skills and English (CASE), and the Library. You'll also have opportunities to connect with the Guild of Students (the student union at UCB), find out more about student life, and take part in activities organised by the Student Engagement and Success Team.
